What is LZIP extract?

LZIP restores an LZMA-compressed member with integrity checks. A plain .lz restores one byte stream; .tar.lz restores a TAR archive whose entries can then be listed and extracted. LZIP itself does not store filenames or folders. This tool handles both layers locally.

Review the list, avoid overwriting important files, and use a memory-limited sandboxed extractor for large or suspicious archives. Large inputs are fully buffered before decompression in this browser tool.

Frequently asked questions

Why can another program not open the result?

The extension can be wrong. A valid .tar.lz must decode as LZIP and then parse as TAR; a plain .lz has no TAR directory. XZ, LZMA-Alone, truncated streams, and corrupt members are different cases.

Are my files uploaded?
