What is LZMA-Alone extract?

LZMA-Alone is the legacy LZMA1 container with a 13-byte header. A plain .lzma restores one byte stream; .tar.lzma restores a TAR archive whose entries can then be listed and extracted. This tool handles both layers locally and does not treat XZ or LZIP as LZMA-Alone.

How to use this tool

Open .lzma or .tar.lzma and review the detected contents. A single LZMA-Alone stream provides one restored file; LZMA-compressed TAR can contain multiple files and folders. Inspect paths before saving entries. Use LZMA-Alone Create for the reverse workflow.

Choosing the right format

LZMA-Alone itself does not store a multi-file hierarchy; TAR does. Prefer XZ when you control both ends. .tar.lzma may have weaker desktop integration than .tar.xz.

Important limitations

Untrusted LZMA data can request large dictionaries or expand substantially, and embedded TAR entries can contain unsafe paths. LZMA-Alone does not include a checksum for verifying the decompressed content. This browser tool buffers the complete compressed input before decoding.

Frequently asked questions

Why can another program not open the result?

The extension can be wrong. XZ (.xz) and LZIP (.lz) are rejected here. A valid .tar.lzma must decode as LZMA-Alone and then parse as TAR.

Are my files uploaded?
